2019 Scholarship Recipients

Freya Hatch-Surisook, Niles Schulz Scholarship $3000                 
Freya is a well rounded student/athlete/ performer/musrician! She is Number 7 in her class,  (3.87 GPA). She lettered in golf and  tennis & played volleyball.  She performed  in theater and did costume work for theater  She has a long standing passion for the environment and will study Art History and Environmental Science at Bard College in NY or Occidental College in California. She worked in the family restaurant SenYai SenLek.

Alejandro Eduarte, Niles Schulz Scholarship $3000
Alejandro is passionate about Theater and the Arts. He took varied roles in Theater at Edison and the Twin Cities including performing, stage managing, tech crew, and writing. He plans to study Humanities, Social Science and be involved in Social Justice work. His GPA is 4.0 and is ranked 1st in his class. At Edison, he was on the track team.  He is proud of his Latin Heritage. He has a Scolarship offer to attend Harvard Univ. Cares deeply about the culture and stories that make up his history.

Linda Senaphanh, Pete Guzy Scholarship $3000
Linda was a star on the Edison Track Team that won 3 State Titles. She also played soccer and earned the Tommie Pride Award.  She will attend Bethany Lutheran College to study Elementary Education .  She has done coaching, volunteering, tutoring, and participated for 5 yrs in the 3 Deep Leadership Academy  for Urban Kids.  Linda has 3.88 GPA and ranks 6th in her class.

Giovanni Green

Giovanni Green, Bernie Kunza Scholarship $2000
Giovanni  was  a 4 year varsity Wrestler and Football player, Captain in both for Jr & Sr Years and All- District in both sports.  He also lettered in Baseball.  He has a passion for music, reading, writing, and helping other people. He will attend St Olaf College and play football & wrestle. His GPA is 3.57 in IB Diploma Coursework. He is 13th in his class. He is undecided about his career choice. His Mom is his hero & motivator.

Mykenzie Cole, Guil Parsons Scholarship $2000
Mykenzie  is passionate about being on the  Volleyball team(Captain for 3 years). She is coaching kids in Volleyball. She was in the Voyager Leadership Program & National Honor Society in leadership roles. She enjoys team situations. She plans to attend Minnesota State Univ. in Mankato  to study Business & Accounting. Her GPA is 3.96 in IB Diploma Coursework and  is ranked 4th in her class. She is self taught in Spanish.

Brandon Arneson, Guil Parsons Scholarship $2000
Brandon wants to be ahead of the curve and be a leader. He successfully participates in many things. Tennis, Band, Jazz Band, Theater, NHS, and Various school councils. . He was in the Voyager Leadership Program and Junior Achievement. He will attend University of Denver  to study Business and entrepreneurship.  He is in the IB Program.  Brandon is 2nd in his class with a 3.99 GPA. His future is unlimited with many successes.

Randry Mugisha, Frank Rog Scholarship $2000    
Randry played Football (Captain 2 years – All District Running Back),  Wrestling (Captain 3 years and made State Tournament) and Track (Captain 4 years – All Conference). He  was in Choir and sang solos. Randry has done a lot of volunteering.  He will enroll at Hamline to study Business and possibly Law.  He came to the US as a boy from Burundi, Africa. He is a leader in his family of 12, often caring for the needs of his siblings.

Paris Cook, Art Solz Scholarship $2000
Paris was very involved in performance activities such as Debate (4 yrs and Captain)and Theater (4 yrs) while at Edison. They helped her learn to express ideas and think critically. She had Leadership roles in several organizations. She plans to attend the U of Minnesota TC campus and study Criminology and possibly become a Civil Rights Attorney. Paris achieved a 3.81 GPA and is ranked 8th in her class.

Connor Arneson

Connor Arneson, Art Solz Scholarship $2000
Connor is already accomplished at many things.  He plans to attend Grinell College in Iowa and may become a History Teacher. He has other possible career interests also. His GPA is 3.97 and is ranked 3rd in his class. At Edison he was involved in Theater, having participated in 10 plays. He has been active in Boy Scouts achieving theEagle Scout level. He is a fourth generation Edison Student and dedicated NE Resident.

Sonja Pierce, Lorraine Lindahl Scholarship $2000
Sonja played softball (Captain) and Volleyball (Captain) . She wants to pursue a career as a nurse or Physical Therapist. This career choice has evolved from some health conditions she has had to deal with. She is a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants to do with her life. Her GPA is 3.56 and 15th in her class. Lorraine Lindahl would have been proud of her.

Peter Biros, ECSF Scholarship $2000        
Peter  played soccer (4 years), baseball (5 years), and hockey (4 yrs w/Mpls Hockey Team).  He is in the Edison National Honor Society and has been VP  of the Voyageur Business program. He will attend the University of Redlands in California. His GPA is 3.65 and ranks 11th in his class. At this point, he is planning to study Business with a strong interest in Sports Management.  He likes numbers!

Soria Sarwary, Larson Family Scholarship $1000
Soria came to the US from Kabul, Afghanistan when she was 13 to join her mom in the US. At Edison, she played soccer (4 years,  Captain and All Conference Sr. year) and softball (3 years). She was part of TRIO Upward Bound,a leadership development program.  She will study to become a Dental Hygienist and possibly a Dentist. GPA is 3.47.

Jailine Santana Delgado, Wes Hendrickson Scholarship $2000
Jailine was seriously committed to being a wrestler on the Varsity wrestling team ( Captain Jr & Sr years). She made it to the State Tournament . She is an IB Diploma Candidate and is considering Mechanical  Engineering  or Math as her career choice. She will enroll at Augsburg  or Hamline University.  She is involved in her church working with youth and spends time working to achieve Social Justice. She will be the first Wes Hendrickson Scholar and he would be proud of her!

Jenna Halabi, Sherry Gozola Crepeau Scholarship $2000
Manager  of the Wrestling and Volleyball teams.  She participated in Concert Band (4 yes)and Jazz Band (2 yrs), and Pit Band.  She was also active in Junior Achievement and the Edison National Honor Society. Her GPA is 3.51 and ranks 18th in her class. She plans to attend Hamline University or St Catherine’s University .  She wants to study Business and Marketing for the Non-Profit world.

Aidan Stromdahl, Mary Barbara Ferguson Scholarship $1000
Aidan has been very active in the music programs at Edison. He is a trumpet, piano, and percussion player. He played in the Pit Band at Musicals and Jazz Band.   He was involved in the Harmony Bridge program which forms small ensembles to play at neighborhood venues. He has a 3.46 GPA and ranks 21st in his class.  His goal is to attend Hamline University to study Art & Music Production. Good Luck, Aidan.
