2022 Edison Community & Sports Foundation Scholarship Winners
The Edison Community & Sports Foundation is proud to announce its 2022 Edison Scholarship recipients. The Foundation thanks Edison High School teachers and counselors for their help in identifying these eighteen remarkable Edison seniors. Each student demonstrates excellence in scholarship, school and community service and accomplishments in sports, leadership and citizenship. We wish them sincere congratulations as they move on to college life, and, join the ranks of Edison alumni.
Jack Hewitt-Perry – Pete Guzy Scholarship
Jack will study exercise science at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He played football, baseball and wrestled at Edison. He participated in AVID, volunteered, was a baseball umpire and had a rewarding experience assisting a child with autism.
Irma O’Meara, Pete Guzy Scholarship
Irma will continue her studies at the University of Minnesota where she has been in PSEO for two years. Marketing is her desired field of study. Volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis and National Honor Society were interests at Edison.
Gabriel Eduarte, Niles Schulz Scholarship
Gabe will study business and play soccer at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA. At Edison, he participated in chess, student leadership and volunteered in the community. Soccer is his passion and he was captain of the team for two years.
Nari Miller, Niles Schulz Scholarship
Nari will study business at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX, where she will wrestle. Nari is Minnesota State Champion in wrestling! She ran track and played football, too. She’s a fearless leader who dreams to compete in the Olympics!
Amin Aden, Guil Parsons Scholarship
Amin plans to study computer science at the University of Minnesota. He played basketball and soccer, while participating in TRIO Upward Bound, Cookie Cart, chess and volunteer events such as Feed My Starving Children.
Alexis Knight, Guil Parsons Scholarship
Alexis will study biology at the University of Minnesota next year. She was active in basketball, swimming, softball and volleyball as well as the National Honor Society and volunteer activities. She loves to learn and she loves science!
Toby Carr, ECSF Scholarship
Toby will study business at Bemidji State University. At Edison, he played football, baseball and was assistant coach of the basketball team. From his experience in football, he gave back to the community and learned that hard work pays off!
Danna Rizo Lozano, Lorraine Lindahl Scholarship
Danna will study psychology at the University of Minnesota where she has been in PSEO. She participated in many activities at Edison and in the community. Danna enjoys roller skating, creative writing, reading and music.
Drew Fischer, Frank Rog Scholarship
Drew will study government at a college to be determined. At Edison, he played soccer and tennis and enjoyed debate. Music is an interest. Drew was in concert band and sang with VocalEssence. Drew collects music – in all its forms.
Asa Krause, Art Solz Scholarship
Asa will attend the University of Minnesota to study aerospace engineering. He is passionate about soccer and plays tennis and badminton, too. He participated in theatre, jazz band, choir, chess and debate. Asa is a social justice advocate.
Sadie Duffrin, Art Solz Scholarship
Sadie will study architecture at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. She was active in National Honor Society, Spark-Y and ACE, while playing volleyball (which she loves), softball and soccer. She volunteered and has creative hobbies!
Sam Schneider, Bald Headed Bernie Kunza Scholarship
Sam wants to study German at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He played soccer and baseball, enjoyed chess and National Honor Society activities. He worked at the MN Twins Baseball Camp, coached youth baseball and volunteered.
Svetlana Greene, Wes Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship
Svetlana will study Latin American Studies and International Relations at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. She was active in softball, swimming, theatre, National Honor Society and volunteering efforts. Learning about the world is a passion.
Margaret Altmann, Mary Barbara Ferguson Spake Scholarship
Maggie plans to study marketing at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She enjoyed golf, soccer and 4-H at Edison. She has figure skated since Kindergarten. From that experience, she learned about persistence and balancing activities.
Henrik Olson, Gary and Jane Hagstrom Scholarship
Henrik will study business at St. Olaf College. He participated in soccer, golf and the Voyager Program. He’s been active in the community and is interested in business, sports and journalism. He plays the piano, too!
Ella Selmecki, Sharry Gozola Crepeau Scholarship
Ella heads to the University of Washington to study civil engineering and construction management. She participated in theatre, rock climbing and the outdoor club. She enjoyed her ACE (architecture, construction and engineering) mentorship.
Gwendolyn Bubser, Larson Family Scholarship
Gwen will attend Indiana State University to study physical therapy. She was active in 4-H, Girls Inc., Green Team and played tennis, hockey and track. She’s an entrepreneur, having an Etsy shop, and participated in many community activities.
Sanyla Gallagher, Larson Dental Scholarship
Sanyla wants to study nursing at Winona State University. She played volleyball, softball and soccer. She values her strong connections with her teammates. She worked as a camp counselor and was active in the community.
