2023 Edison Community & Sports Foundation Scholarship Recipients

The Edison Community & Sports Foundation is pleased to present its scholarship recipients for 2023. We honor these students’ demonstrated excellence in scholarship, school and community service as well as accomplishments in sports, leadership and citizenship.

We extend sincere congratulations to them as they join the ranks of Edison alumni and move on to college life. We thank Edison High School faculty, staff and administration for identifying these outstanding Edison High School seniors.

And – many, many heartfelt thanks to you, our donors, for your outstanding and continued support and encouragement of Edison students!


Micah Young Pete Guzy Scholarship
Micah will study and play basketball at UWi-Superior. He is interested in studying computer science. He was captain of the basketball team, played soccer and tennis, ran track and was in National Honor

Lindey Olson, Pete Guzy Scholarship
Lindey will study pre-vet at UMN or UWi-Eau Claire. She was active in theatre, Student Leadership Council, Green Team, Outdoor Club, National Honor Society, was captain of the tennis team and played softball and badminton.

Wakan Austin, Niles Schulz Scholarship 
Wakan will study sociology at UMN. He was in football and wrestling, was active in our community as a student rep on the MPS school board. He interned at MIGIZI and works with youth at the YMCA and the Northside Boxing Club.

Amal Osman, Niles Schulz Scholarship
Amal will attend Augsburg University and study nursing. She played badminton at Edison and participated in Yearbook, Green Team, Somali Culture Club and National Honor Society. She volunteers at a senior care facility.

Cullen Arneson, Guil Parsons Scholarship
Cullen will attend UWi-Milwaukee or Gustavus. He is passionate about our environment and the health of our community. He is an Eagle Scout and has been involved in track, baseball, tennis, National Honor Society and several clubs.

Maxine Almen, Guil Parsons Scholarship
Maxine will attend Western WA University to study gender/women’s/human rights and hopes to continue to be involved in theatre. She played tennis and badminton at Edison, and participated in National Honor Society and Volunteer Club.

Logan Evenson, ECSF Scholarship
Logan plans to begin his studies at UMN. He is unsure of major, but is considering zoology. He was active in band and has been VP of Band Council. He played tennis and chess and enjoys the out-of-doors!

Greta Haeg, Edison Authors Literary Arts Scholarship
Greta will study at Hamline University. She’s interested in design, urban design or architecture. She took PSEO classes and was involved in Green Team, Volunteer Club and Chess Club. She’s creative–drawing & painting are interests!

Ayden Poisson, Frank Rog Scholarship
Ayden wants to become a game developer and will begin studies at Minneapolis College. He’s interested in languages, was in Chess Club, Junior Achievement, ran track and participated in National Honor Society.

Sarah Adjreke, Art Solz Scholarship
Sarah will attend St. Kate’s to study social work and psychology. She’s passionate about working with youth and hopes to be a school counselor. She was involved in Student Leadership Team and enjoyed art classes at Edison.

Elian Hernandez, Art Solz Scholarship
Elian will study computer science at UMN or the University of Manitoba. He played tennis and soccer at Edison. He loves music. He was in Outdoor Club and the ACE Mentor Program for four years and enjoys helping his neighbors.

Ashley Sosa-Bustillos Wes Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship
Ashley will attend St. Kate’s to study nursing. She was very active at Edison, involved in Latinx Unidos, TRIO, AVID and College Possible. She enjoyed art classes and volleyball. She’s been active in her church and community.

Manny Gomez, Gary and Jane Hagstrom Scholarship
Manny will begin his studies in finance at Minneapolis College before transferring to UMN or St. Cloud. He played soccer and ran track. He is active in the community through the Loppet Foundation and enjoys music – he plays guitar and piano.

Tagen Nelson, Larson Family Scholarship
Tagen is interested in studying mechanical engineering at St. Thomas. He was president of the band and plays 12 instruments! He’s in a band outside of school. He enjoys sports and played tennis and volleyball.  

Charles Rusnacko, Larson Dental Scholarship
Charlie will study nursing at UWi-Eau Claire. He enjoys sports and being outdoors. He participated in baseball, football, wrestling, AVID, Volunteer Club and National Honor Society. And, he volunteered for the Edison centennial!

Jocelyn Aucaquizhpi, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Jocelyn will study both cosmetology and business at Aveda Institute. She is passionate about art and feels painting is her way to express herself and connect with others.

Mason Dunham, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Mason is looking forward to electrician studies at Minneapolis College or Dunwoody College of Technology. He played volleyball, soccer and ran track at Edison.

Savaria Owens, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Savaria plans to attend Aveda Institute to study cosmetology and plans to own a business in the future. She played volleyball at Edison and was active at school through the YMCA Beacons Program

Dylan Rathmann, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Dylan will study marine mechanics at Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, FL. He just loves being around water! He plays baseball and volunteered with Edison’s baseball team. He also enjoys hockey and singing in his church choir.

Istahil Said, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Istahil will study psychology at UMN and plans to advocate for women’s rights. She took PSEO classes at both Minneapolis and St. Paul Colleges. She has been involved in YMCA Beacons and helping people who are homeless.

Liza Wallace, Edison Class of 1963 Scholarship
Liza will study architecture at Dunwoody College of Technology. She played soccer and was in gymnastics, works as a gymnastics coach and participated in AVID. She volunteers through 2nd Harvest Heartland and Feed My Starving Children.
